Kinsella Estates Celebrates 50 Years in Business


The Kinsella family have a proud tradition of serving their community that started back in the 1960’s. 50 years on, Michael and Alan Kinsella, along with their team of property professionals continue this great tradition of property excellence from their offices in Carnew and Gorey.

The team at Kinsella estates are specialists when it comes to selling a home, farm, business or investment property in the South East. With five decades of property knowledge and expertise, their reputation for auctioneering is well deserved.

“The fact that we are celebrating our 50th year in business is testament to the foundations that my father put in place back in 1968, and by that I mean  our values, ethics and integrity as a family-run business. We run the business based on the belief that a warm, friendly and honest estate agency like ourselves will always seek return on the efforts we invest daily”, explains Managing Director Michael Kinsella. He continues:

“The business has been successful for 50 years, but it has not been without its difficulties. The property crash and vulnerable rural recovery over the past decade certainly tested every aspect of the business, this was when I took over the running of the business.  Our founder, my father, was an incredible person – lively, loyal and ambitious.   These ambitions were not just for the estate agency, but for the local area and its people.   They drove the business to where it is today. Everyone in the business plays a vital part and this has been the case for years therefore, we all understand and value each other and of course, our clients. In our business everyone has a say, each voice is valued, and decisions are made by a team effort. Being family-owned places some pressures so we work hard, believe in what we do and develop ourselves personally and professionally along the way.”

Skill and Innovation

Michael attributes this ongoing success to a great team of family and long-serving staff members who are incredibly talented and experienced. This experience is complemented  by continuous training and up-skilling, which is critical as the property business is undergoing massive change in the face of new technologies and changing consumer expectations.

“As a business we are constantly evolving and recognise the value of  technology and other forms of innovation, it is not something we are frightened of.  This is something that we have invested heavily in since 2015/2016, when we recognised huge changes coming down the track for our sector.  I am proud to confirm that Kinsella Estates become the first estate agency outside of Dublin to use Virtual Reality to market properties and we offer HD 3D tours of selected residential and commercial property. Property technology, or Proptech is a global movement to digitise the buying, selling, renting and management of properties and Ireland is waking up to this movement in recent years.  We saw this as a massive opportunity for the sector as a whole, and for Kinsella Estates, so we embraced the changes to position ourselves as one of the leaders in this space.  This was achieved by working with early-stage technology innovators. One of the most exciting steps we took in late 2018 was the introduction of an online bidding platform, which allows buyers and sellers 24 hour access to bids and bidding information.  While we are at the early stages of implementing this, it is entirely realistic that house-hunters could be bidding on their dream home on over their Christmas dinners!” 


The past decade has been a time of chaos for the estate agency sector and for the entire property industry.  As this agency navigates the current period of recovery, the long-term plan is certainly to maintain and build on the core services and honest approach while responding to emerging trends.

“If half a century in business has taught us anything ,it is that change is constant. It hasn’t always been easy as change – for businesses, like for people – can be difficult, but we and our clients are benefitting from it so we will continue to innovate. If we can keep learning from digital means, and create a shorter time frame thereby reducing the headache for vendors and purchasers, this would be a monumental step in the property business. Of course, at the end of the day, it’s all about improving the experience of every buyer and seller.”
